LAHORE: The transport business is implementing nationwide wheel-jam strike today to protest higher taxes, that include income tax and toll tax.
The owners of van and coaster buses stopped the transport service because of the increased registration fees and heavy taxes.
Rana Latif, the Central leader of Transport Association, announced that there will be a wheel-jam strike observed nationwide.
For example, the capital value tax has been increased to two percent, per Rana Latif. He also threatened to continue the strike until taxes are withdrawn.
The government increased taxes for transport owners. The increase in pricing is too high and will make it impossible to operate public transport, the owners said.
The transport owners also demanded the government give public transport status of an industry, so that it can be managed by the private sector
The Transporters Association of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa declares a support strike today in solidarity with the transports from Sindh and Punjab.
It seems like the government is trying to reduce the number of vehicles on the road by forcing people to pay more for their registration, but it’s not effective because it is still affordable for most people.
