Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department (KPK), has decided to privatize 58 public hospitals in the province as part of the Public Private Health Initiative.

Details reveal that the Department of Health KPK published an advertisement to privatize the 58 hospitals.

Five hospitals would be built in Peshawar. All hospitals in the categories C and D will be privatized as part of the PPHI Project. Through the health foundation, these hospitals will be transferred to private companies. 24 hospitals in three KPK tribal districts will also be privatized.

After talks with the International Monetary Fund, (IMF), for the release of a US$1billion tranche, the Federal government had already decided to increase electricity prices by Rs7 and privatize profitable public-owned DISCOs.

Tarin was concerned about privatization

The IMF expressed concern about the Rs 2,600 billion power tariff, and recommended that the government privatize public-owned profitable DISCOs. The IMF also suggested that the government hand over losses-making DISCOs provinces.
