In the American market, the Midsize pickup is currently experiencing a lot of success. Though other pickup models have been available, there are only a few that haven’t yet made an appearance: The new Volkswagen Amarok.
The new Amarok is longer and wider than its predecessor, while also offering a better off-road design. For example, the wheelbase has been lengthened, but the overhangs have been shortened with that in mind, which also makes it great for handling on rough surfaces.
Volkswagen will offer five different engine options for the Amarok, depending on country. There are either three turbodiesel I4 engines and one turbodiesel V6 or a two-liter turbo I4 engine with wheelhorse power.
There are just as many transmissions on offer, including six- and 10-speed automatics as well as five- and six-speed manuals. 4Motion all wheel drive is also included, with both permanent and selectable systems available for different countries.
Inside the Transporter, you will find a digital instrument cluster and a small infotainment touchscreen on the dashboard.
You can also expect a wide array of driver-assistance systems, with more than 20 being offered globally. Adaptive cruise control has been upgraded to function with changing speed limits, and LEDs means you will be able include them in your truck.
To reiterate: Volkswagen is not planning to offer the Amarok in the US, but considering we’ll get most of this truck’s goodness in the next-gen Ford Ranger, that seems just fine.
Ford will bring the new Ranger to the US in 2023, and it’ll even come with a 392-hp Raptor variant — something VW can’t match.
