Safety is an important factor for car commuters, especially compared with smaller vehicles like bikes, scooters and motorcycles. In order to solve both safety and weather, the new enclosed-concept Nimbus One is designed to feel like a car.
The Nimbus One offers the ease of public transport in the form of an electric motorbike and the convenience of a car.
The Nimbus One, the spinning cycle to look out for. It’s a tadpole trike design which means it has two wheels on the front with one wheel at the back.
That’s more stable than a typical delta trike design, but the key to its sturdiness is its leaning mechanism.
Want a convenient, easy-to-ride vehicle that leans into turns? Take a look at the Nimbus One, which uses machine learning to sense sharpness of turns.
This vehicle is perfect for beginners who want to explore more extreme adventures without the danger of steering.
And even though the vehicle is designed small enough to be classified as a motorcycle, it still has features in common with a car. It has a front airbag, a fully enclosed design and windshield wiper, as well as electronic safety features like the on-board camera and AI.
Uber announced that the Uber Pool would include a driver’s seat, one passenger seat and a cargo area behind them. Attachment points for a child seat will also be included. This allows parents to put their children in the car with ease.
Nimbus One
The Nimbus One is a vehicle that used to be classified as an autocycle, or three-wheeled vehicle. They usually include standard seats and seat belts, as well as a steering wheel.
In the United States the term “autocycle” only exists at state level, so regulatory information for this type of vehicle varies from state to state.
It is classified under Feds as a motorcycle and must conform to applicable laws about motorcycles.
Most US states require only a driver license in order to ride one of these vehicles, with Massachusetts being out of compliance and requiring both your driver’s license and your motorcycle license.
The creators of the Nimbus One hope it reaches a top speed of 50 mph and has a range of 93 miles at slower city speeds. The 9 kWh battery would be larger than those previously developed for Zero electric motorcycles.
The batteries in Gogoro are removable and can be swapped out with a charge on the go. The battery pack is charged through a quick charging system that’s capable of delivering 1.2 hours energy from a Level 2 charger, hence requiring a longer charge at 5.4 hours from a standard wall outlet.
That sounds like it’s pushing right up against the laws of physics for a common 15A breaker on a US 120V outlet, but it might be the company expects you have higher power circuits in your home.
The Nimbus One’s designers think that the car is ideal for people because it has a carbon footprint 1/3 of a Tesla Model 3 and 1/10th that of a gasoline car.
The Blade has a smaller footprint than other motorcycles, making it easier for you to navigate through congested areas. It also has exceptional power at its disposal, which could help you get your point across to drivers who can’t decide what lane they ought to be in.
Europeans will get to continue feeling good about lane splitting via this innovative model, which is slated for US deliveries in Q3 of 2023. European cities are likely next in line for delivery dates in Q1 of 2024.
Reservations are now open for both US and European customers. To put your name on the list, you’ll have to initially pay $100. Then it costs a total of $9,980 for the Nimbus one, or $200 per month to rent it.
Electrek’s Take
I hate the idea, but I hope they successfully execute it. We’ve been fooled before by cars that looked cool, only to be left out in the cold.
The Nimbus One is a fantastic idea and looks like a great vehicle. Other questions come to mind though, like is the vehicle going to be able to reach its performance specs?
Will the cost of $10k for each still be valid when the vehicles become more widespread? Will one year from now we’ll see these vehicles on sale everywhere in under stores?
In this case, it would be on the medium-size scale carbon-based vehicle that could help bring down the cost and increase efficiency by moving more Americans out of gas cars and into something smaller.
Although I’m a fan of NEVs and LSVs – the less gas emissions you create, the better, in my opinion – the United States doesn’t offer enough good options for these vehicles.
Fortunately, some companies are working on this problem . Check out my recent test drive in the Eli ZERO quadricycle below.
